This project’s site is located on Linkou Old Street. Currently, part of the site is a tin-roofed market, while the majority is a motorcycle parking lot. A nearly century-old tree stands atop the site. While the site’s rich landscape features a winding terrain with varying elevations and multiple functions, its design presented a challenging design challenge.

After evaluation, the original market entrance was chosen as the new entrance, creating a distinct, modern, yet traditional and humane entrance. Next to the old tree, a park plaza was created. Whether entering or exiting the market, or visiting the childcare center, senior citizen daycare center, reading room, or activity center above, all revolve around a shared local memory: the old tree by the market.

The market itself is equipped with escalators, energy-saving air conditioning, and a sunken, ventilated and lighted plaza, eliminating the dark and damp space. Visitors can enjoy the greenery while shopping, strolling around the old tree plaza and chatting.
