TRA Dounan Railway (Overhead Station)

Dounan Railway Station, also known as “Taliwu Station,” was completed in March 1945 during the Japanese colonial period. As the final station constructed in that era, it holds significant historical value and has long served as a vital transit point for Yunlin residents—fondly referred to as their “Hometown Railway Station.”

In 2008, a major renovation of the plaza in front of the station revitalized the area, leading to the establishment of cultural spaces such as the Taliwu Living Art Center, the Taliwu Library of Illustrated Storybooks, and the Ecological Corridor. Today, the area thrives as a hub of traditional arts and cultural heritage.

In designing the new railway station, our vision was to create a landmark that stands out yet remains respectful of its surroundings. Rather than overshadowing the existing historical and artistic character, the new design harmonizes with the adjacent plaza. This thoughtful integration allows the Dounan Railway Station to evolve into what is now known as the Dounan New Arts and Living Center—a space where history, culture, and modern life coexist in balance.
