This project is located in the heart of Jungli’s traditional downtown, near Jungli Train Station and Zhongping Road. Surrounded by buildings with over 36 years of history, the site was once home to “The Big Clock”, the city’s first major retail market and a vibrant hub of activity. Although the area has since declined, traces of its former energy remain in the shop houses lining the ground floor.
The goal of this redevelopment is to reinvigorate the spirit of “The Big Clock” through a thoughtful reconstruction of the clock plaza, as well as the introduction of a street-style youth plaza along Zhongping Road. The building’s modern exterior design reinterprets the symbolic “Big Clock” using a contemporary architectural language, integrating circulation pathways and interactive public spaces to organically attract and engage the community.
At the building’s entrance, visitors are welcomed with exhibits narrating the history of “The Big Clock” and the rich cultural heritage of Jungli’s Hakka community. Deeper inside, a Hakka-themed vintage-style food plaza offers a nostalgic culinary experience.
The upper floors feature flexible layouts that can easily adapt to a variety of uses, meeting the needs of individual unit owners. The rooftop level is designed as a multipurpose venue, accommodating restaurants, outdoor weddings, live performances, group events, and other creative possibilities.
This project is not just about architectural renewal—it’s about reviving a cultural landmark, reconnecting with local heritage, and creating a vibrant social hub for the next generation.
