Academia Sinica Research Center for Chemistry Planning

The project site is located on the southern side of the existing Institute of Chemistry and the Modern History Database Center. Bordered by a roadway to the east and electrical pylons to the south, the site presents environmental sensitivities and is influenced by public perceptions often associated with chemistry—namely concerns about pollution, toxicity, and harm.

As a result, one of the primary design goals for the Foresight Chemistry Center is to reframe the image of chemistry, replacing negative connotations with a new vision rooted in health, transparency, and human-centered design.

The building features an open ground floor with a high ceiling, lush greenery, and an ecological water feature, establishing a fresh, inviting, and vibrant atmosphere at the entry. This transparent and open layout offers unobstructed views for pedestrians and showcases a variety of flexible discussion spaces, encouraging interaction and openness.

The structural system is organized with modular precision to support spatial flexibility and visual clarity. Laboratories are designed with a transparent, open-plan layout, emphasizing visibility and accessibility. The design carefully considers human scale, introducing green elements, comfortable breakout areas, and lounge-like meeting spaces to support collaboration and well-being.

Ultimately, the Foresight Chemistry Center is not just a place for scientific advancement—it is a new architectural statement about how science, environment, and human experience can harmoniously coexist.
